Media Specialist

Position Summary:

The Media Specialist is an integral role within Sextant Marketing, providing customer-focused marketing solutions while supporting the team in strategic and tactical execution of media campaigns. This is a position where hands-on digital media operations allow for project delivery to the higher education & corporate-focused clients within Sextant Marketing’s portfolio.  The Media Specialist participates in the planning, development, and implementation of digital media programs or projects which may include paid search, paid social media and programmatic media campaigns in support of clients’ marketing goals and objectives. This position provides an opportunity to engage across the organization providing data-driven actionable insights and reporting.  The Media Specialist will collaborate with peers, clients, and partners in communicating the effectiveness of our marketing and student recruitment efforts.  The optimal candidate will have experience in digital lead generation and customer acquisition as well as experience in data management and performance reporting.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Media Specialist reports to the Media Director and will be responsible for providing hands-on management and strategic guidance in bolstering Sextant’s media practice.   This person will be responsible for periodic media planning, daily cross-channel performance analysis, budget and campaign optimization, strict budget management, reporting, and driving growth in our media channels on behalf of our clients.  Examples of these responsibilities would include:

  • Set-up, manage and optimize digital media campaigns including Social Media, Paid Search, Display, Native and Video
  • Ensure all campaigns achieve lead goals while maintaining strict adherence to budget
  • Discover expansion and growth opportunities through continuous research and analysis of keywords, audiences, channels, technology and ad formats
  • Compile data and produce periodic client-ready media reports providing deep analysis and actionable insights
  • Maintain detailed creative specification documentation and ensure requirements are clearly communicated and understood by cross-functional teams (Account Managers, Marketing Managers, Project Management and Creative)
  • Manage and maintain weekly media budget tracking report
  • Analyze campaign data, identify trends and act on opportunities to increase performance while ensuring a positive return on ad spend and other key performance indicators
  • Collaborate with other internal teams (e.g., Account Manager and Marketing Managers) to develop and monitor strategic marketing initiatives
  • Assist with the creation of monthly invoice packets to ensure a constant flow of invoice delivery to the clients and media vendors.
  • Collaborate with external agencies and vendors to execute media campaigns.
  • Collaboration with the Account Management and Marketing Operations teams in the development and implementation of media plans across our client portfolio.
  • Keeping abreast of and implementing the latest technology and industry trends.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Experience with external media tools and ability to acquire, analyze and develop strategies based on competitive markets and media spend
  • Strong knowledge of web analytics tools/software, such as but not limited to Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, etc.
  • Understanding and experience with SEO/SEM campaign management and associated software such as MOZ, SEMRush, and other similar tools/software.
  • The ability to analyze, report, and communicate media performance to internal teams and expertly present to external clients.
  • Understanding of and working knowledge of web Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress and Drupal.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a knack for data analysis
  • Excellent communication skills; comfort with being on the phone and communicating through emails, instant message and video conference with clients, partners, and internal team members
  • Expert at organizational management and applying good judgment on business endeavors.
  • Positive attitude with an optimistic and energetic disposition.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks within deadlines and learn advanced strategies.
  • Desire to learn and excel with a growing company.


Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Google Ads, Google Analytics and other industry certifications are a plus
  • Minimum of 1-year experience within a media planning or buying function within a company/agency or account services experience within an advertising agency is preferred.
  • Experience working in digital ad platforms such as Facebook Ads Manager, Google Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager, Google Tag Manager, or other similar platforms
  • Experience in Excel, including the ability to use formulas and pivot tables
  • Experience with a high-volume, multi-client agency with client-facing responsibilities is a plus.
  • Prior experience in higher education (or similar high-value considered purchase industry) is preferred, but not required.
